Akkio Appoints Christian Juhl, Former Global CEO of GroupM, to Board of Directors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Akkio, the AI infrastructure that powers agentic workflows across media companies, today announced the appointment of Christian Juhl to its board of directors. Juhl, who served as global CEO of GroupM, brings decades of executive leadership across data-driven media, agency transformation, and technology-forward growth to Akkio's board.

Juhl's appointment marks a significant milestone for Akkio as it accelerates the productionization of agentic AI workflows across the world's largest media companies. His appointment follows growing adoption of Akkio's platform – running on-premises within media cloud environments – by leading media companies including Horizon Media and LG Ad Solutions.

"Christian has built some of the most important infrastructure in modern media and innately understands this ecosystem," said Akkio CEO Jon Reilly. "He brings that depth of knowledge and relationships to help Akkio build toward something bigger: an operating system that works for the entire industry."

Juhl served as global CEO of GroupM from 2019 to 2024, leading the company's 35,000-person organization and overseeing more than $60 billion in annual media spend. Under his leadership, GroupM grew annual net sales by $1 billion, achieved 25% cumulative growth, and won landmark client partnerships, including The Coca-Cola Company. Before GroupM, Juhl served as global CEO of Essence, the data and measurement-driven agency acquired by WPP in 2015, where he grew billings more than fivefold and earned recognition as Adweek's Breakthrough Media Agency of the Year. His earlier career included 14 years at Razorfish and leadership roles at Publicis.

"I've spent my career watching the industry wrestle with fragmented data, disconnected systems, and tools that were built for individual agencies rather than the ecosystem as a whole," said Christian Juhl. "Akkio is building something different, an infrastructure that works for everyone. I'm excited to bring what I've learned to the board and help guide that vision forward."
