Ultra Ethernet Interoperability Testing

  • Juniper Networks, Spirent Communications, and TOYO Corporation collaborated on a technical proof-of-concept as part of the ShowNet network infrastructure project at this year’s Interop Tokyo. The initiative marked Japan’s first functionality testing of Ultra Ethernet, a next-generation Ethernet technology.
  • The test focused on interoperability in a mixed environment comprising Ultra Ethernet Transport (UET) and RoCEv2 (RDMA over Converged Ethernet v2). The results demonstrated that in network infrastructures optimized for AI workloads and High-Performance Computing (HPC), Ultra Ethernet enables effective congestion management, along with low latency, high throughput, and low CPU overhead data transmission.
  • Test Equipment: QFX5240 Switch (QFX5240-64OD)
    • The QFX5240 Switch, powered by Broadcom Tomahawk 5 silicon, delivers high-density 800GbE connectivity in a compact 2U form factor, doubling the capacity of its predecessor to support large-scale AI/ML clusters.
