TemperPack Launches New Mailer to Replace Boxes for E-Commerce Shippers

New recyclable padded mailer uses proprietary WaveKraft® material and unique structural design to offer new levels of protection for goods in transit.

RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TemperPack today announced the launch of its recyclable padded mailer, a high-performance solution designed to allow e-commerce brands to switch away from boxes for wide range of items. The new structure opens wider, packs faster, and protects better than traditional mailers, for greater capacity, cushioning, and ease of operation.

“We engineered this mailer to deliver the protection of a box with the efficiency of an envelope”

TemperPack’s mailer uses WaveKraft engineered material, a unique paper-based substrate designed to offer 50% to 80% better cushioning protection than plastic or conventional padded mailers. The mailer has a gusseted structure that allows it to open wide while maintaining its shape, creating generous payload space and making it easy to pack.

“E-commerce has outgrown the limitations of legacy packaging formats,” said Charles Vincent, TemperPack Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. “We engineered this mailer to deliver the protection of a box with the efficiency of an envelope while meeting the recyclability standards brands and consumers increasingly expect.”

For brands shipping fragile items like small electronics, cosmetics, and specialty foods, using boxes leads to unnecessary waste: added DIM weight, added dunnage, greater inventory requirements, and additional steps in fulfillment. Until now, converting those shipments to mailers wasn’t possible, due to the lack of cushioning and structure in conventional padded mailers. TemperPack’s mailer is designed to address those shortcomings and provide e-commerce brands a viable option for switching away from boxes.

TemperPack mailers have passed independent lab testing in accordance with the ISTA 6 Amazon Overbox test protocol, which ensures packaging can survive e-commerce fulfillment. Additional drop testing shows that WaveKraft mailers provide 50% to 80% greater shock absorption compared to traditional plastic mailers and other recyclable cushioned options.

TemperPack’s recyclable padded mailer is rated "widely recyclable" by How2Recycle®. It is made with 50% recycled paper content and the paper is sourced from FSC-certified paper mills. The mailer is designed to give companies a strategic advantage through greater speed and less waste, particularly in categories such as vitamins and supplements, cosmetics, apparel, books, small electronics, and personal care.
