Calm Launches "Not Calm Moms" – Mental Health Support That Gets Motherhood

Because Moms Don’t Need to Calm Down—They Need Each Other

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Calm, the leading mental health company, today unveiled Not Calm Moms, a new initiative redefining maternal mental health by prioritizing community over unrealistic self-care expectations.

"At Calm, we know moms aren't calm. They're light on sleep, heavy on the mental load, and always on,” said Blake Beers, VP of Brand at Calm. “Real mental health support isn’t about silencing the chaos—it’s about making space for it. With Not Calm Moms, we’re reimagining what it means to support moms: through authentic connection, meaningful community touchpoints, and moments of honest release.”

Moms need moms, and the data backs it up—a woman’s mental well-being is most closely tied to the strength of her relationships.

Backed by trusted experts, including California Surgeon General Dr. Diana Ramos and New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Wallace, Not Calm Moms is a multi-year investment in maternal mental health. The initiative features comedian, actor, and mom Ilana Glazer, who kicks off the campaign by hosting Calm’s first-ever mom themed Rage Room in New York City, and social media personality Caitlin Murray (@BigTimeAdulting), who brings her signature humor to the Calm app with bite-sized, relatable content for moms.

With real-world experiences like Mother's Day Rage Rooms that let moms break free from stress and in-app content crafted for real-life challenges, Calm is meeting moms where they are—not where they feel they should be.

“Research shows that when mothers feel seen, supported, and valued, they become the steady, resilient presence their children need," said journalist and bestselling author Jennifer Wallace. "We all know kids need strong, dependable adults to thrive—but we rarely talk about this: sturdy adults need other sturdy adults too. Yet, mothers are sold the myth that they must do it all alone. Not Calm Moms challenges this damaging narrative and offers something far more powerful: real community and support.”

“Being a mom has been the most fulfilling—and the most exhausting—experience of my life. It really does take a village,” said California Surgeon General Dr. Diana E. Ramos. “Every mom deserves support, love, and the reassurance that it’s okay to need help, especially when it comes to mental health. What matters most is knowing you’re not alone. Let’s break the stigma and uplift each other—because when we support moms, we help their babies and families thrive.”

According to the U.S. Surgeon General, strong social ties are one of the most powerful protective factors for mental health, reducing stress, preventing depression, and improving child outcomes.

With 17 million millennial moms navigating the unspoken realities of motherhood—from postpartum anxiety to the daily pressures of parenting and working—Not Calm Moms is here for the long haul.

Launching May 2025:

MOTHER'S DAY RAGE ROOMS – Ditch the brunch, break some stuff. This cathartic gathering invites moms to come together to smash everyday stressors—from breast pumps to Live Laugh Love signs—proving that sometimes, release looks like a sledgehammer, not a spa day. Research shows short bursts of expression can lower stress hormones and boost emotional resilience. Kicking things off in New York City, comedian and mom Ilana Glazer will host Calm’s first Rage Room, hyping up moms as they smash, laugh, and reclaim their calm. Throughout May, Calm is offering free Rage Room experiences across the U.S. for Not Calm Moms. Reserve a spot in New York City, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, or Seattle at calm.com/moms.

IN-APP CONTENT – Expert-led sessions, including Jennifer Wallace's masterclass on Mattering, highlighting community's role in mental well-being, plus bite-sized content moms can listen to on the go—whether in the driveway or hiding from the kids in the bathroom. Caitlin Murray(@BigTimeAdulting) will bring her authentic voice to create "Moments of Calm," short-form content that acknowledges the chaos while providing realistic mental health support.

PARTNERSHIPS – Through Moonpig, the personalized greeting card retailer, moms can send free Mother’s Day cards to each other—making it easier to connect, support one another, and celebrate the realities of motherhood. From “Thanks for being my emergency contact for meltdowns—mine, not the kids’” to “We’re just moms sending ‘Is this normal?’ texts at 2 AM,” the cards are designed to feel like real mom-to-mom moments. Find the custom cards at calm.com/moms.

COMMUNITY BUILDING ON REDDIT – Building on the success of Calm’s Threads account, Calm will expand into a new surface that facilitates community. By launching r/NotCalmMoms - a low-risk, no filter space for moms - women can vent, connect, and share with one another. Because sometimes the calmest place on the internet is an anonymous mom thread.

NOT CALM MOMS CLUB & MOM-MAIL – A resource hub featuring expert-backed tips, free mental health tools, and advocacy efforts—plus a brand-new bi-weekly email series offering real mom stories, “ask the expert” micro-columns, and supportive resources to help navigate the messy journey of motherhood. Created for moms, by moms, it's accessible to all at calm.com/moms.
