Suki Unveils Industry-First Ambient Orders Staging for its AI Assistant

The Healthcare AI Leader Paves the Way Toward Full Automation of Clinician Administrative Work

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Suki, the leader in artificial intelligence (AI) technology for healthcare, today announced the industry’s first-ever capability to generate and stage prescription orders from ambient visits. This new feature will be available within its flagship product, Suki Assistant, and was developed at the request of clinicians. Orders are among clinicians' most time-consuming administrative tasks and can take up to 1.4 hours every 8-hour shift, making the process a key contributor to clinical administrative burden and its solution a top priority for Suki. The company will initially roll out this capability to users of athenahealth's electronic health record (EHR) via the athenahealth Marketplace, with expansion to additional EHR partners planned in the coming weeks.

Clinicians frequently find themselves manually inputting and searching for orders across multiple tabs in their electronic health records (EHR). This, in addition to the fact that many orders require individual acceptances for verification, leads to a less-than-optimal and incredibly time-consuming process that can delay patient care and contribute to clinician burnout.

With this new feature, clinicians can simply speak their recommended prescription orders to Suki as part of an ambient encounter, and Suki will be able to structure, code, and stage the order. Clinicians can then submit the note seamlessly, eliminating dozens of clicks and endless scrolling. From there, they can review and sign off effortlessly, saving valuable time and reducing administrative burden.

"Working with Suki’s AI technology for order entry has been a breath of fresh air,” says Dr. Kristi Trimm, Family Medicine, TrustCare. “Suki helps me close encounters faster by ensuring my orders are ready as soon as the patient walks out of the room. Less typing, more patient care—this is exactly what modern medicine needs, and I'm so happy to be part of the change."

Suki is making meaningful strides in mitigating the pervasive issue of clinician burnout, reducing documentation time by 72 percent on average and after-hours by almost 6 hours. Spending nearly 20 hours a week on administrative work alone affects clinicians, patients, clinics, hospitals, and health systems. By freeing up time for clinicians, Suki allows them to spend more time with patients and have more quality interactions, leading to more positive patient outcomes and more revenue for healthcare systems.

"At Suki, clinicians are at the heart of everything we build, ensuring our solutions directly address their needs and enhance their workflows," said Punit Soni, CEO and Founder of Suki. "Clinicians nationwide have voiced the burden of manual order entry, and we’re proud to introduce the industry’s first AI-powered orders capability. By streamlining order placement, minimizing delays, and reducing errors, we’re setting a new standard for healthcare innovation—empowering clinicians to focus on delivering high-quality, personalized care."

This new capability follows a wave of innovation and significant partnerships for Suki, including Suki Platform partnerships with Zoom and athenahealth, and added capabilities for Suki Assistant, such as patient summarization and Q&A with the support of Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform.
