Owning Over Renting: 65% of Golfers Prefer Playing with Their Own Clubs While Traveling, According to New Luggage Forward Survey

Leading luggage delivery provider’s survey uncovers how golfers prioritize convenience and performance on the go

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Luggage Forward, the exclusive luggage delivery provider for many of the world's leading travel brands, today announced findings from its inaugural Travel and Luggage Survey, highlighting the travel trends of avid golfers, as golf season gets into full swing.

Taking insights from 1,019 U.S. consumers, ages 18 to 65+, the survey found that 65% of golfers play with their own clubs when they travel, demonstrating the value avid golfers place on using their clubs regardless of where they are. Of the 65% who bring their clubs while traveling, 27% prefer shipping their clubs, showing the premium golfers are willing to pay for convenience when traveling.

These results reinforce the sizable investment golfers have in the outcome of their game while traveling, especially when compared to other sports. Among outdoor activities like skiing, surfing and golfing, respondents were more likely to bring golf gear over skiing or surfing gear when traveling.

The survey also found that nearly the same number of respondents rented golf clubs while traveling (34%) as those who brought their own on the plane (33%). This indicates that cost considerations and convenience may influence golfers’ traveling decisions, with some opting for the ease of renting at their destination while others prefer the familiarity of using their own clubs — a signal of their level of commitment to the game.

“One trend was clear from the results: Avid golfers will spare no expense to make sure they can play at their best, even when traveling,” said Audrey Kohout, co-CEO of Luggage Forward. “Staunch golfers invest in making sure their clubs are fitted to their exact height, arm length and swing mechanics, so it’s par for the course that that investment would also extend to how they travel with their gear. However, the results show that many still opt to lug their golf gear to the airport, making for an inconvenient travel experience. Our simplified shipping process, where clients simply attach luggage tags to their golf travel case and the shipment is handled from there, empowers avid golfers to focus on their game rather than on carrying their clubs while traveling.”
