AM Best Maintains Under Review With Negative Implications Status for Members of Curi Insurance Group

OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AM Best has maintained the under review with negative implications status for the Financial Strength Rating (FSR) of A- (Excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Ratings (Long-Term ICRs) of “a-” (Excellent) for the members of Curi Insurance Group (Curi) (Raleigh, NC). (Please see below for the list of Curi members and Credit Ratings [ratings].)

The ratings reflect Curi’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.

The ratings were placed under review with negative implications on April 9, 2026 (see related press release), following material changes to overall balance sheet strength and operating performance driven by surplus decline and significant adverse development. Despite some recent improvements in overall risk-adjusted capitalization, the ratings will remain under review with negative implications while AM Best continues to gather information regarding Curi’s operational and capitalization plans through year-end 2026 and into 2027.

The FSR of A- (Excellent) and the Long-Term ICRs of “a-” (Excellent) remain under review with negative implications status for the following members of Curi Insurance Group:

  • UMIA Insurance, Inc.
  • MMIC Insurance, Inc.
  • Medical Mutual Insurance Company of North Carolina
  • Medical Security Insurance Company
  • MMIC Risk Retention Group, Inc.
