The MolinaCares Accord Awards $50,000 Grant to Mental Health America of Indiana for New Mental Health Training Program

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare (“Molina”), has awarded a $50,000 grant to Mental Health America of Indiana (“MHAI”) to create a first-of-its-kind statewide mental health training initiative for library staff. The training will be facilitated by the Indiana Library Federation.

An estimated 1 in 5 adults in Indiana live with a mental health condition, and more than 1.2 million Hoosier adults experience mental illness each year. Libraries are increasingly serving as access points for connecting individuals to community resources and mental health care. There are nearly three times as many public libraries in the U.S. as hospitals, making them one of the most widely accessed community hubs for services.

“Indiana’s overall state of mental health has shown steady improvement over the years, but there is still work to be done to assist underserved communities,” said Stephen McCaffrey, president and CEO of Mental Health America of Indiana. “With MolinaCares' support, we will provide trainings that support early identification and intervention before crises occur so that individuals can be connected with the right resources to handle their specific situations."

MolinaCares’ funding will support the development of targeted mental health training through MHAI’s Stanley W. DeKemper Training Institute that will be available to library staff statewide and delivered in small, interactive cohorts for accessible, skills-based learning. Indiana libraries serve as community hubs and can be access points for resources beyond books. This training empowers library staff to confidently and compassionately support local patrons who may experience mental health issues.
