Citizens Against Government Waste Names Sen. Elizabeth Warren April 2026 Porker of the Month

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) named Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) its April 2026 Porker of the Month for wanting the IRS to file your taxes for you.

For trying to revive a wasteful tax preparation system that was riddled with conflicts of interest and rightfully eliminated, Sen. Elizabeth Warren is an easy choice for April 2026 Porker of the Month.

Sen. Warren wants to resurrect the Direct File program that would allow the IRS to prepare and file everyone’s taxes. But the Direct File system was eliminated in 2025 in part because it would cost between $64-$249 million annually and did not cover state taxes. It was also set up without statutory authority. The IRS has offered Free File since 2003 in a successful public-private partnership, yet Sen. Warren wants the government to completely control tax preparation.
