Idaho Legislature Unanimously Passes Veteran Protection Bill, Signed into Law by Governor Brad Little

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a rare and powerful show of unity, every elected member of the Idaho Legislature voted in support of SB 1286, a Veteran protection bill, unanimously passing it through both chambers before being swiftly signed into law by Governor Brad Little.

The National Association for Veterans Rights (NAVR) today applauded Idaho’s leadership in advancing a balanced, bipartisan framework that strengthens consumer protections while preserving Veterans’ ability to choose how they access trusted assistance in navigating the VA benefits system.

“The unanimous passage of this legislation sends a clear message,” said Peter O’Rourke, President of NAVR. “Protecting Veterans while preserving their freedom to choose how they access support is not a partisan issue; it is a shared responsibility.”

With this action, Idaho joins a growing coalition of states implementing policies that prioritize transparency, accountability, and Veteran choice. SB 1286 establishes clear standards for fee structures, disclosures, and data protection, helping ensure Veterans are informed and safeguarded when seeking support.

NAVR also recognized the leadership of the Idaho House Commerce and Human Resources Committee, including Chair James Holtzclaw, Vice Chair Tony Wisniewski, and Committee members, for advancing the legislation with a clear commitment to Veteran-focused policy.

Idaho’s action reflects growing national momentum to address bad actors while maintaining access to lawful, ethical assistance, ensuring Veterans are not left to navigate a complex system alone.

SB 1286 will take effect on July 1, 2026.

NAVR remains committed to working with state and federal leaders to advance policies that protect Veterans, promote transparency, and preserve access to a range of trusted support services.
