altafiber’s Wi-Fi 6 will help power upgraded Convention Center, deliver seamless connectivity to thousands of visitors every year

CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--When the Cincinnati Convention Center reopens following an extensive $264 million renovation, altafiber’s 10 gigabit diverse fiber-enabled Dedicated Internet and Wi-Fi technology will be running behind the scenes to support the facility’s goal of serving as a gateway for residents and visitors to Greater Cincinnati.

altafiber’s network will feature 28 miles of Cat6A cable running throughout the 750,000-square-foot Convention Center. Those cables will eventually connect to 271 Access Points that are Wi-Fi 6E enabled to facilitate a high-density, high-speed environment.

“The Convention Center will feature one of the most technologically advanced Wi-Fi solutions in the country when we’re finished,” said Greg Wheeler, Chief Operating Officer of altafiber. “We are building the infrastructure that will keep thousands of visitors every day seamlessly connected for the next decade and beyond.”

"Every detail in the reimagining of the Convention Center enhances our city's ability not only to attract convention business but also to deliver an exceptional experience for attendees once they’re here," said Katie Westbrook, Senior Vice President of Development for 3CDC. "Nothing makes a better first impression than offering the highest-quality, most reliable technology. We are grateful for altafiber's partnership in delivering high-speed Wi-Fi at the Convention Center."

altafiber’s key partners on the project include HPE – Aruba and Professional Cabling Solutions.

The Convention Center is scheduled to open by January 2026. Among the features:

  • 3 levels – The multi-level concourse provides easy access to exhibit space, meeting rooms, and ballroom levels
  • Exhibition Space – 200,000 contiguous square feet.
  • Cincinnatus Ballroom – 40,000 square feet, one of the largest in the Midwest.
  • Queen City Ballroom – 17,400 square feet to comfortably host smaller groups.
  • Brand New Rooftop Terrace that overlooks the city.

Plans also call for the construction of a new 700-room Marriott hotel just south of the Convention Center. Hotel construction will start later this year. There will also be a 2-acre park and extended outdoor space – Elm Street Plaza – outside the Convention Center.

The Convention Center joins other high-traffic venues where altafiber delivers cutting-edge Wi-Fi connectivity including Paycor Stadium, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, and the Sharonville Convention Center.

“These venues collectively draw millions of residents and visitors every year to Greater Cincinnati,” John Scola, Director of Product Strategy for altafiber’s Business Organization, said. “We are proud to partner with these customers, which count on altafiber’s cutting-edge technology to deliver a consistently outstanding customer experience.”
