Molina Healthcare of Nevada Grants Over $700,000 to Support Greater Access to Care

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Molina Healthcare of Nevada (“Molina”), in collaboration with The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), today announced over $700,000 in grants to 14 community-based organizations to help increase access to care for Nevadans in Clark and Washoe Counties. This brings Molina’s total investment to Nevada’s access to care initiatives to nearly $6 million since 2022.

“Our collaboration with Molina helps us to better serve the infants, children, and adolescents who come to us to receive care ranging from physical exams and well-child visits to sick visits and behavioral and mental health concerns,” said Dr. Harold Zilberman, pediatrician at Nevada Pediatric Specialists with locations in Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada. “Molina’s grant will help us bring in new pediatricians and nurse practitioners from out of state so that we can continue to provide and increase access to care for the underserved pediatric patients in our community.”

These grants build on the success of past investments while addressing new and evolving health challenges in the state. Molina and its partners are working together to create programs designed to meet the needs of local communities, improve behavioral health outcomes, enhance workforce readiness, and support families in Nevada.

“Molina has an unwavering commitment to Nevada, delivering locally-tailored services that break down barriers to care and build stronger communities,” said Rob Baughman, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Nevada. “Investing in our providers and community-based organizations is an essential part of our efforts to improve maternal, child, and behavioral health across the Silver State.”

Maternal and Child Health

According to March of Dimes, over 41% of Nevada counties are maternal care deserts. Molina is working with local organizations to expand access to pediatric care and behavioral health services for expectant mothers and adolescents in Nevada.

Workforce Development

To meet the national average ratio of health care providers to population size, Nevada needs an additional estimated 2,097 physicians, 5,372 nursing assistants, and 21,795 personal care and home health aides. Molina’s investments will help bolster provider training programs, enabling health centers to serve more patients and ensure physicians have the support they need to prevent burnout and turnover.

Behavioral Health

According to state rankings, Nevada’s adults and youth experience “a higher prevalence of mental illness and lower rates of access to care” compared to the rest of the United States. Additionally, mothers across the country have self-reported a decline in mental health. Molina is addressing these behavioral health needs by supporting the expansion of substance abuse services, peer support programs, as well as treatment and detox facilities.
