HTEC Expands Into Latin America Through the Acquisition of Cognits

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HTEC, a global AI-first digital product development and engineering company, today announced its expansion into Latin America with the acquisition of Cognits, a trusted nearshore technology partner headquartered in Austin, Texas, with a delivery center in Guatemala and a growing talent base across Latin America.

“Expanding to LATAM is a strategic path forward to strengthen our global presence further and unlock the same time zone delivery capabilities to our U.S.-based clients. This is the first step in that direction,” said Aleksandar Cabrilo, CEO of HTEC.

The acquisition comes as Cognits is recognized on the 2025 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S., further affirming its strong trajectory, client impact, and talent quality. With this move, HTEC strengthens its global presence and unlocks nearshore delivery capabilities for its U.S.-based clients, while gaining access to a fast-growing regional talent pool.

“Expanding to LATAM is a strategic path forward to further strengthen our global presence and unlock the same time zone delivery capabilities to our U.S.-based clients. This acquisition is the first step in that direction,” said Aleksandar Cabrilo, CEO of HTEC.

Founded in 2013, Cognits provides software engineering services for customers in the U.S., mainly in the financial services sector, with a strong user-centered, quality-focused approach. With an excellent reputation on the talent market in Guatemala primarily, Cognits is seen to be the seed for HTEC’s expansion across LATAM.

“Joining forces with HTEC allows us to take our team and our clients to the next level,” said Trevor Kale, CEO of Cognits. “With HTEC we gain access to some of the world’s most cutting-edge projects and forward-thinking companies. As a part of HTEC, we expect to grow faster than ever while staying true to our core values of reliability, teamwork, and growth mindset.”

This acquisition further puts Guatemala on the map as a key market for technology talent that seamlessly integrates into complex global projects. HTEC clients will benefit from faster delivery, same-time-zone collaboration, and extended access to engineering talent.

For the Cognits team, the move also opens a world of new opportunities.

“This is an exciting moment for us,” said Ricardo Mazariegos, VP of Delivery at Cognits. “We’ll work side-by-side with global teams on innovative, high-impact projects and adopt an AI-first approach in everything we do.”

HTEC’s expansion into Latin America marks another milestone in the company’s long-term strategy of building globally distributed, regionally aligned engineering excellence. The integration of Cognits teams is already underway, and both companies are committed to delivering continued value to their clients and employees.
